Apologies if this is just pointing out the obvious, but it sounds like you're actually asking about the basic setup of an audio stream, i.e. you need to setup a server or locate a service to host your stream. That's a separate project from embedding an existing stream in a website.
I don't know much about this stuff, but I believe Darwin Streaming Server is pretty standard for self-hosting a stream. On the services side, BlogTalkRadio is one option popular with talking-head-type podcasters. I have no idea what traditional radio stations use. Once you've got a working stream that you can listen to live, then some of the other suggestions (like the Station module) might help you do cool stuff with your stream on your Drupal site, including capturing and archiving it.
