I've noticed on my personal test system, that the named deamon seems to have
an error handling problem.
My system comprises an Acer modem/router and ES&G 4.1rc3 in Server mode,
three PC's and an iBook SE.
After the router being disconnected from the internet for periods of five
hours or more, (still investigating), 'bind' freezes. It doesn't quit or
segfault. A 'service named restart' works a treat, but obviously this could
be a problem for off-site supported servers.
If this is known, please ignore :-)

PS Please no Off-Topic discussion on the merits of my network design. It
suits a particular purpose ie my Wifes need to be able to connect to the net
even if I am installing RC4 or whatever... - Thanks.
