Something I've seen done by some developers, and which I've tried to do
myself, is a minor change in the changelog section of RPMs. All the
changes would be listed as usual, but there is also a line indicating
the release.  For example:

* Sat Oct 21 2000 Dan Brown <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
  - Release 0.2-2
  - Moved php.ini into templates instead of templates-custom

        It would actually be even better to list the full package
name--something like "e-smith-php4-0.2-2" rather than just "release
0.2-2". It seems to me that this makes it a little easier to tell what
changes were made since the last release (or since the last release you
installed, which may not be the same thing). It's certainly a minor
thing either way, but it might be something to keep in mind.
