No, the reason e-smith chose MySQL is that it was required by IMP for
web mail.

Actually, the only use e-smith has for MySQL in the e-smith server and
gateway distribution is IMP. Now it's there we might use it for other
things, but really it was just a case of:
- we needed web mail
- IMP was the best one we could find
- IMP used MySQL
- We didn't see any point in rewriting IMP to use Postgres
I don't think anyone at e-smith has any real objections to Postgres, and
in fact I know that most of the team here are well aware of its
strengths and many find it superior to MySQL for many uses. It's just
not what IMP used.
Hope that's cleared it up :) Feel free to install Postgres on your
e-smith system, or better yet to package it as an e-smith contrib
module!
