I don't know.
Dan Brown used mysql for his contributed IMP webmail. We saw no reason to
change that decision. We also had more in-house experience with MySQL than
Postgres. MySQL was fast, had the features required for webmail (which is
not a taxing SQL job by any means), and at the time, MySQL was reportedly
more reliable than postgres.
I'd agree with John Powell - either could have done the job, and there's
nothing wrong with the choice of MySQL.
