As the author and copyright holder of the how-tos, it is up to Darrell to
determine if they can be published. However, copyright protects only the
specific expression of "something", not the idea or concept of the
"something" itself. In other words, there is nothing to prevent anyone from
writing new how-tos that express the same something, just so long as that
expression is substantively different than Darrell's so as not to be
construed as a copy.
Case in point -- much of the how-to on how to batch add user accounts was
taken from postings made to this forum by me, and conceptually the knowledge
of how to batch delete or otherwise deal with user accounts in a batch mode
was a derivative work. Darrell's contribution was in gathering the
information provided my me and a few others, testing and refining the
knowledge we shared with everyone into a workable form, and recording it in
a howto document. Without providing credit, I might add ;-) And I've noted
that many of the howtos are of this nature -- an accumulation of the
knowledge derived from the postings here, formalized by someone, hopefully
with the courtesy of acknowledging the input of others.
For those of you who want to contribute, you are free to rewrite those
howtos provided you do so in a way that does not infringe Darrell's
copyright.
