search for the dynamic dns threads that are available. they detail how to do
what you are after. your "new" real domain becomes mongo.dyndns.org, or some
such. it works fine, but it does requires some reading of the previously
posted stuff.

Subject: [e-smith-devinfo] making me crazy

I've set up an e-smith "box" and it works just
great... except for email.

One problem appears to be the network setup. I use a
cable modem so the "real domain" that the e-smith
set-up asks for would be "home.com"? Actually since
there is a hub and (some) other computers behind it, I
came up with a different (internal) domain name for
those computers. Is there any special config that
e-smith requires? How do I tell the e-smith server
that it should "look like" xyz.home.com to the world
and mongo.mynet.internal to the other computers? I've
set up the other computers to have mongo's IP in their
/etc/host file for starters. I guess I need 2 host &
domain names on the same box and I don't know how to
configure e-smith to do that.

Then, there is qmail. and fetchmail.
Since this is a "stealth" system (no public domain
name for this box other than XYZ.home.com) I'd like to
use fetchmail to "POP" the email from the external
systems that hold it for me and deliver it locally to
myuser on the e-smith box. Once I've skimmed the
email with IMP, I want to be able to POP it from one
of the internal workstations where I read and file my
email.

Now, I've gotten fetchmail to work but the emails that
it pick up seem to vanish. They are never delivered
to my account on the e-smith box. I started looking
at the qmail docs since fetchmail seemed to be working
ok. There is a TEST.receive document and I keep
getting an error when I try to duplicate their test.
Here is the transcript:

telnet 127.0.0.1 25
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to 127.0.0.1.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 localhost SMTP daemon ready.
helo dude
250 localhost pleased to meet you, dude
mail <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
501 Syntax Error in parameters or arguments
quit
221 Closing connection
Connection closed by foreign host.

now before you tell me that I should not put the "<"
and ">" around the name, I get the same result without
them.

I hope that this is enough (but not to much)
information that some of you gurus will be able to
help me out.

Thanks in advance.
