Charlie, sorry for being confusing.

My earlier post, which included a snippet from the maillog, proves that the
default implementation of IMP does process through smtp and the
smtpd_check_rules.

Maybe UW-IMAP has no reference but IMP certainly does, at least in it's
default implementation.

What I am trying to bring to everyone's attention, is it appears that after
applying the Courier IMAP Howto, this default changes and IMP now does not
send via smtp anymore.

Many users use the smtpd_check_rules to lock down their system for both
incoming and outgoing message traffic.  If you bypass this, then you break
any rules and restrictions that were in place.

What we need to do is find a way to have Courier/IMP also process through
the smtpd_check_rules.
