Chris,

sounds to me like your E-smith server (which version are you running?)
treats the sender's IP address as an external address and therefore doesn't
allow relaying. I don't know these Cisco devices but maybe you want to try
to add the IP address range that the Cisco assigns for the clients to your
"Local Networks" in the e-smith-manager?
Just an idea.
