Robert, Darrell,

Thanks for your pointers about nmap and nPulse.

I went to the extreme and installed a clean system with SME v5.1.2 and
nPulse0.54 and nmap-2.54BETA31-1, and followed the advice on Darrell's
howto. Still have exactly the same problems with port configuration and OS
detection in nPulse as before, however when testing with nmap command line
alone, I can detect OS types, and it seems to be working just fine.

I have asked the author about dynamic DNS, and I am awaiting his response.

I found the following warning at http://www.horsburgh.com/h_npulse.html
------------------------------
nPULSE - Web-based network monitoring package for Linux and Unix
Version 0.54 Download 380K
nPULSE is a web-based network monitoring package for Unix-like operating
systems. It can quickly monitor tens, hundreds, even thousands of
sites/devices at a time on multiple ports. nPULSE is written in Perl and
comes with its own (SSL optional) web server for extra security.

FLASH!!There have been reports of problems when installing on RedHat 6.2 and
7.1 systems. You must upgrade Perl to 5.6.1 or later for nPulse to work
properly. Also, there is an invalid CGI.pm "alpha" version at some mirror
sites, make sure you are using CGI.pm version 2.753.
---------------------------------

However on SME v5.1.2 with Update 1 applied, I have perl version 5.6.0.

Did either of you upgrade your version of Perl in addition to the CGI.pm
update referenced in the howto? I am wondering if the Perl upgrade (not
CGI, but the base) is the cause of my problem as reported on horsburgh.com.

Also, how can one tell which version of CGI.pm is installed?

Thanks!
Bruce Friedman
