Patching the original only works if the original author agrees to incorporate the changes. Otherwise all changes are lost the next time the original author updates their build and the end user installs their rpm. I sent all my updates to Mitel and asked if these could be incorporated. I was told they were under review but that the Mitel team was very busy. Since I did not receive agreement from Mitel that the updates would be incorporated, it was prudent to use custom templates. When/if Mitel does agree to incorporate the changes, let me know. I'll patch your two rpms and send to you. We could even include an Obsoletes tag in the spec file to make the removal of my contribs automatic for the end user.
