I believe the rewind after dd in /sbin/e-smith/backup (which I've removed) may be the cause of this. Install the rpms and perform a backup as is. If this works, you have your answer. If your still having problems try changing the flexbackup parameters via the panel. When you find the combination that works, post back to devinfo. I highly recommend the Seagate STT220000A 20GB IDE. This has proven a great, dependable and inexpensive tape drive. I am very interested in you finding a solution for their newer Seagate STT2401A-S 40GB IDE. As these TBU's are both in 3.5in form factor they are great for deploying in a 1U rackmount chassis in the FDD bay.
