I'm thinking that's exactly what we'll do. We will start with SME server (unless anybody has a better option) because of the great systems they've already put into place, i.e. the web interface, and the templates.
Well strip it down, basically take out the file server side of things, and take it down to basically just the web serving and e-mail handling. We'll continue with the virtual domain end of things, and add that same type of virtual domain handling with e-mail. Finally, we'll wrap it all back up into a nice web control panel.

same thing but operating as you intend to not what it comes out of the
box. This way securty updates can be applied, upgrades can be performed.
Your other alternative get a distrbution specifically set for being an
email server SuSE Email Server 3 or if you need more functionallity the
new coming SuSE Open Exchange
