I've added a new flexbackup RPM to /pub/e-smith/dev/5.6dev/updates on ftp.e-smith.org. This, I believe, corrects a longstanding problem affecting some tape drives. The problem was a missing rewind if the erase_rewind_only option were set to true, which it is by default.
The error meant that "erase_rewind_only" was a misnomer. The "erase_rewind_only" option exists so that "rewind" could be used in place of the "erase" command on any tape drives where "erase" was not required and was consuming (e.g. most SCSI tape drives). However the implementation didn't use the "rewind" command, but did nothing instead. I'll be interested to here whether this fixes any of your persistent backup problems, and also whether it enduces any new ones. This is only tested on 5.6, but I expect that it will work on any version.
