Both the development version and commercial version of SME server are developed by Mitel. SME server is the current name of this Linux distribution and e-smith is the old name. The base OS for both versions of SME, development and commercial, are open source and essentially the same. When you pay money for SME server, you are subscribing to a service called Service Link that adds various add-ons to the base OS.does the opensource and the Mitel version have something in common ?
Alot of people do this, but you're on your own as far as tech support goes. All depends on how you are planning to deploy SME.What do you think about a commercial appliance with the opensource e-smith distro ?
I'd talk to someone at Mitel about SME. They have various options available that are very reasonably priced.
You should know, though, that this really isn't a good place to discuss this type of thing as it is a development forum.
