| I use BackupEdge and DVD+RW drives for backups on smaller workgroup/POS
| servers. I love BackupEdge, have used it for more then 10 years on Unix
| and now Linux servers. In my opinion DVD only makes sense as long as you
| are using less than 4.7 GB. Where DVD does work, it works well. You can
| set BackupEdge to make (include) a BOOTABLE, recovery DVD on every
| night's backup!
|
| If you start talking large amounts of data, roll in the tape drives,
| BackupEdge works great with those too. Even the One Touch Recovery tape
| drives.

DVDs make a great backup medium when they are sized right.

The new compressor in BackupEDGE 2.0 will probably allow 10GB-12GB
to be stored on one piece of 4.7GB media in a typical Linux
installation. Above that, I'd probably suggest tape.

An optical media whitepaper discussing the five different media
types and their usefulness for backup media is available at
our web site. From the home page, just click on "Whitepapers".
