I agree Greg.

To port across to a debian or gentoo distro is a major job. The only
issue I agree with is the Redhat status. Redhat will no longer be
support RH 9.0 as of April 2004. So to go to 9.0 wouldn't be wise.

Fedora seems like a much better option.
