>From a distro's POV that sounds much better than having to ship the full hal just for backlight support, in the sense of "a small and focused ugliness is better than a large ugliness". On the con side this will take some pressure out of the "fix it in X" movement, of couse. Unfortunately I have no idea at all how much work it actually is to fix X properly?
