Thanks for doing this. And let us start to look for the proper solution of the problem now. > I also didn't appreciate the aggressiveness on this thread. I'm sure > people reading the list feel the same. This is software, not religion. Don't get that too personal please. We just take it very serious, and have to get it right this time. We have something that works already, HAL, but it grew to something not really maintainable. Backlight control does not belong into DeviceKit-power, it's the wrong domain/subsystem, and we need to make sure we keep the responsibilities properly separated with the new stuff. There is not much point to start the same what we did with HAL, and add ad-hoc (even when marked temporary) public interfaces which do not belong there in the first place. It's not much about religion, it's just that we learned our lesson, and try to care this time. You are one of the first adopters of the new stuff, and it's great to have you on board supporting the project, making things work, and being enthusiastic about it. But keep in mind, that by doing things in this early stage, you also form the rules where we head to, and people will follow and copy your stuff as a starting point for other projects. That's why we need be that strict and careful here. There is no real rush to get rid of HAL, if we get back the same hacks with a different name. The sooner we can kill HAL the better, but the deal must be worth it. If you want, call HAL "software" and you know very well where it ended up. :) Thanks, Kay _______________________________________________ devkit-devel mailing list devkit-devel@lists.freedesktop.org http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/devkit-devel
