Sounds great! Does it run on any machine the audience is using?
Your description and the recent chatter would seem to suggest nothing
past 598 is working.

I have to agree. You seem to have taken one step forward and two huge steps backwards.

Not supporting win9x/ME etc is cutting off a huge # of people
Not supporting anything other than Sun 1.4.X is cutting off a huge # of people.

I'm stuck at 598 for the forseeable future. I'm running kaffe
on FBSD and have been totally unable to get any of the other
jvms to compile and work.

I realize you can't keep supporting the old OSs forever, and
have a formidable problem with compatibility between different
jvms, but still, this is a bit much.

Subject: [freenet-support] Freenet stable build 5003

Freenet stable build 5003 is now available. You can get it from
http://freenetproject.org/snapshots/ or via the update utility.

We need as many nodes to be running NIO (that is, build 599, 5000,
5001, 5002, 5003 or later) as possible before releasing Freenet
0.5.2, which should be in the next week or so if we don't find any
serious bugs in the meantime.

Major changes (not all mine):

* The simple/advanced switch now honors the saved value if there was
  one (bugfix)
* Web Interface pages should use less memory
* Fixed several possible near-deadlocks where we locked vital objects
  such as the failure table while streaming to the network (all in
  infolets, so shouldn't affect most people).
* Changed logging and timeouts for BlockingQueue.decode - part of the
  effort to work around bugs between RedHat 9 and Sun 1.4...
* Fixed a BlockingQueue bug that would have slowed down the read
  interface thread
* Minor HTML tidyups
* Fixed some minor potential NullPointerExceptions
* Updated README with a note on Sun 1.4.1 vs 1.4.2
* Changes to ServletContext
* Removed various unused variables, CVS log comments etc
* The usual logging improvements, indenting, rearrangements
* Marked storeCipher* as deprecated in the config descriptions
