No, I have taken one huge step forwards and two small steps backwards :) > > Not supporting win9x/ME etc is cutting off a huge # of people We MAY be able to support win9x/ME. We are working on it. I will release a build later today for testing on that platform. One of the problems is that win9x/ME imposes a hard limit of 50 connections, but there is also a platform specific selector error. But maybe it will work. > Not supporting anything other than Sun 1.4.X is cutting off a huge # of > people. Not supporting anything other than Sun 1.4.X is cutting off a totally different and probably much smaller number of people: * Idealists who won't run non-free JVMs, but don't have the time to fix Kaffe or GCJ * People running on unsupported platforms - old versions of MacOS, most non-Linux non-Solaris unixen The consensus (between me, ian and oskar anyway) is that project resources should not be used to fix Kaffe/GCJ unless that is the only way to get Freenet working at all. We cannot fix all the world's problems, we must limit ourselves to the task at hand. HOWEVER, everyone else who works on the project is free to do whatever they want, including fixing Kaffe/GCJ's NIO support. > > I'm stuck at 598 for the forseeable future. We could implement a compatibility mode in new builds, but it would be another two weeks work and it doesn't seem worthwhile for 1% of our userbase. > > I realize you can't keep supporting the old OSs forever, and > have a formidable problem with compatibility between different > jvms, but still, this is a bit much. > > >>[Original Message] > >>From: Toad <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >>To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >>Cc: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >>Date: 7/4/2003 8:26:40 PM > >>Subject: [freenet-support] Freenet stable build 5003 > >> > >>Freenet stable build 5003 is now available.
