I know there has already been a proposal for a search in Freenet. AFAIK there is a version biased on some paper I can't find at the moment, that is planned for .6 or later. However I just ran across this the other day:
http://www.acm.org/sigcomm/sigcomm2003/papers/p407-chawathe.pdf It does not really specify how the meta data gets onto the network, so perhaps this could be intrigrated with the planed search mechanism.
