What exactly are we trying to make easier here? 1. Short refs:
We could make #freenet-refs no longer need a pastebin, which would get us a few more users in the short term, but given opennet is rather pointless. We could make it slightly easier to IM your noderef, since it's a line to paste instead of a file to send ... but most IM clients (apart from IRC!) support sending files, and sending a file has the advantage that it can be automatically passed to the node if one is already installed. We could make it possible to include your noderef as a line in your email sig. This would be useful in the medium term IMHO, although obviously not in the long term. If you're sending somebody a noderef intentionally, as opposed to just advertising, you'd actually include it. Also if they end up on mailing lists etc you end up with lots of ubernode connections... 2. One-time Invites Invites are useful for offline connect, *provided* that the issuer is port forwarded and his IP doesn't change between issuing the invite and it being used. Could be bundled with a copy of the node on a USB key. Time limited, of course. 3. Really Easy Two Way Darknet Invites: SRP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_remote_password_protocol :) This would rock - you just exchange IP:port both ways, and a password. You only get one shot (or 3 shots, or whatever), so it's DoSable, but it would be *really* easy. You can e.g. write the IP:port and password (hopefully passphrase) on a piece of paper and give it to somebody. If there is a DoS, you have to fall back to exchanging noderefs. However, you will know there is a DoS and therefore there is a Good Reason to go to the hassle. SRP can either use a typed in password or we could have the node generate them. Again time-limited, and the password should not be reused.
