I don't recall disabling it, but its conceivable that I did.

True, but I'm still quite sure that most users experiencing the kind
of delay that I did would be very confused/frustrated by it.  Couldn't
we at least give some message - "launching web browser, please
wait..." or something so that the user isn't left in limbo?

Yes, my later comments were more general, not specific to your installer.

IMHO this kind of usability review, ideally by someone previously
unfamiliar with Freenet, is critical to ensuring Freenet's adoption.
I'd encourage people to get their friends to do this type of thing on
a regular basis (not necessarily with a screencast, just watching them
and taking notes is good enough).
