Being able to work in a team certainly is a goal of computer science education and I do not see any problem at all to convince the guys at university that it is a good thing. They're nice people and I think they will be glad if someone does a bachelor thesis on something he actually enjoys. Given the fact that SVN allows them to see exactly what code was written by whom they could even exmine whether I really worked as much as I will claim.
