What do you mean by content pollution? Spam in all its various forms?

Basically there are 3 areas where it is an issue:
- Chat. Freetalk/WoT/FMS use captchas and a web of trust to try to solve this
problem; Frost was DoS'ed for a long period although is quieter now.
- Searching filesharing (possibly via indexes). Frost provides something like
this, although Frost generally is regarded as chat, and has no spam
protection; Thaw allows users to search, subscribe to, create, etc indexes.
- Searching freesites (via indexes, currently centralised). At the moment
freesite search indexes are fully centralised - a pseudonymous user runs the
spider and inserts an index.

In terms of flooding in general, I don't think we have a problem - opennet
will damp it out fairly well, and on darknet the attacker is limited by how
many connections he has to the network.

What sort of solutions would you be thinking about? (What level, etc)? There
is some concern that CAPTCHAs may not be a viable long-term solution,
hashcash has been suggested, as have some load limiting related ideas
(see "scarce KSKs" in the list archives).
