Hi,

I follow the development of the cryptocurrency industry very closely as I feel
like its goals are related to Freenet very much.

What I've observed over the past months is a lot of alt-coins or other
services appear which claim to make their users anonymous.
What happens with those services is that they get loads of money and users
thrown at them without providing any actual strong proof of anonymity.

For example the most recent one is "Darkcoin":
It has only been around since January, yet its market capitalization sky-
rocketed to $ 60 million at 10-fold price increase during the last month,
currently trading at over 10 dollars.
And the thread at the Bitcoin forums which announced it [2] has over 1300
pages!

If you look at the actual whitepaper [1] you will notice that it relies upon
so-called "master nodes" for anonymization.
I do not claim that I understand the whitepaper, but still the word "MASTER
node" leaves a very bad taste of centralization. And the whole paper is very
short and completely lacks any kind of maths.

As the cryptocurrency community doesn't seem to spend much effort on debunking
such systems, it would be really nice if someone of the Freenet team could
take a look at this and try to figure out whether it really provides truly
anonymous payment.
- - I feel like they are running face-forward into a brick wall and someone
needs to stop them before it hurts the Bitcoin-ecosystem as a whole.

What I am not certain about is which communication path should be used to
publish an analysis. It seems very difficult to communicate bad news of any
type
to the community because Bitcoin etc. are very promising and therefore people
tend to downvote bad news into oblivion. Because of that it might even be
justified to not use the Bitcoin forums or reddit but actually put a whitepaper
on freenetproject.org?

Thanks for your interested,
        xor
