Freenet's goal is to provide freedom of speech. While it is nice to be able to enforce freedom of speech via "underground" technical methods such as Freenet's Darknet, wouldn't it be nice if it was guaranteed on a political level already? It's better to get something in a legal, official way than having to enforce it by computer black magic. Cooperation with politics ensures that. Also, by the way, it can provide the funding which we'll need soon :D
