I’m sorry that I only write this now, but since Sadao complained on
Frost that he considers Freenet dead after getting this response, I
think it’s high time I write what I thought when I first read this
thread.

Toad, I think that you replied calmly that this is out of scope for the
core team and would delay more important work shows that university
helped you a lot in getting focus, and I think your answer is exactly
right.

We don’t even use most of the features Freenet already provides, much
less document them. Adding PSKs now (and debugging them for years until
we get rid of all the potential attacks against the network due to
having a scripting layer in the storage) would block the core developers
From doing the work which is actually needed to make Freenet suitable
for general usage.

Kudos for that.

Sadao, PSKs do sound great. They could make forum systems more efficient
by doing the relevant computations with much less network activity. But
they are also pretty dangerous and their features can be replicated with
existing key-types with sufficient efficiency to support groups of >100
regularly interacting people. Yes, it will be slower, but since FLIP
gets round trip times of less than one minute, the existing technology
can obviously be fast enough for most forum systems out there.

This means, that I don’t see people diverting their effort toward
implementing the prerequisites of a forum system you promise to do
afterwards. If you want to contribute to Freenet, you can write many
great applications by using the existing technology.

For some notes on how to implement specific features, see the Freenet
