Sorry if this has been already proposed but i was thinking that a node should probably keep longer the files it is more likely to be requested for (ie the closest to its key) & delete first files that are "farther" from its key and will probably get much less requests. This should probably be of some weight when purging the datastore togeter with the number of requests, the size and the age of the doc.
Well you can tell me that this optimization is already done by the weight given to the number of requests but IMHO it gets useful with not often requested files that would be stored on a couple of nodes for a little longer time before completely disappearing from the net.
