Hi All,

The possibility has been raised of Freenet becoming part of the GNU
project. This would mean that in return for granting joint copyright to
GNU, we would be able to take advantage of their financial resources in
the event of any form of legal attack on Freenet, or us personally as
its developers. This may seem paranoid, but some people may be out to
harm us, even though they know they can't hurt Freenet itself.

Is there anyone who considers themselves to own the copyright to parts
of the existing Freenet code (ie, those that have made significant
contributions) that might object to this? If nobody responds I will
consider it ok to go-ahead with this.

I personally can't see any downside to Freenet becoming part of GNU, and
I think it would lend us an extra air of credibility in the hacker
community.

Ian.
