I have a lot of personal first hand experience with average users which
demonstrates that proxy configuration is too hard for them to do.

However, we don't have to aim things at the lowest common denominator. If
we have solutions that work for the average user, we can also have
solutions which are better but required more advanced users. Hence the
command line client existing in the first place.
