I'll make a small example. Let's say a user is looking for "Metallica" Than the client would download an index file for the letter "M". This file contains all filenames which start with "M" and also contains a reference to the appropriate keyfile which contains the needed key. The client searches through this index file and perhapes finds an entry like: Metallica = keyfile9.txt; keyfile70.txt The client than only downloads these two keyfiles and gets the wanted keys from these files.
