Unfortunately you didn't do a very good job. You have basically reinvented
a functionality we have had since last summer. I don't quite see how you
could have spent any time at all reading about or using Freenet without
running into signed keys (SSKs as we call them). 

The first thing you mention, using a hosts entry for proxy.freenet.local
rather than localhost for URLs is an interesting idea. Can users on Unix
systems set up their own hosts entries? Currently installing and running
Freenet doesn't require root access, it would be a shame to add that
requirement...
