Yeah, it should not be difficult to write a wrapper class that exposes a node via a web services interface. This is kind of what I had in mind in the first place when I suggested the notion of using SOAP/XML/HTTP since I figured a client protocol had already been hammered out (been a while since I've nosed around the list).
