First, I ask all core developer to trust me that I a lot of people that
work on Freenet or use it thanks them a lot and have the highest
  consideration of their work.

Bu I need to describe the Freenet version shift from a different point
of view to explain this post.

Due to the fact that Freenet *WORKS* till the 0.3.9.x, despite the
fact that was clearly stated that was alpha (or beta ? ) code, a lot
of people is using it; this is, in my opinion the bigger reward that
  a software developer can have.

This explain also the big media coverage that Freenet had from
the beginning, and had also the positive side-effect to develop a
  non trivial user base.

Trust me, there are at least a couple of privacy initiative that are now
on Freenet, that badly need to be able to store and retrieve content
  on Freenet.

I was very unhappy, but I was unable to join the community meeting to
illustrate one of them (due to economic details 8| ) that will
go public, or at least will try to, in few days.

It is not important if it use the 0.3 or 0.4; splitfile FCE
is fantastic, but the most basic feature are enought.

I really see no need to rush people to stop their 0.3 nodes and
install 0.4. Yes, I know that you never said people to stop 0.3,
but this will be the result if the Project doesn't care to
have a workable 0.3 Freenet in place until 0.4 has the same
robustness, and if omit to clearly state this.

Trust me, I have no scientific proof, but I am a direct and accurate
witness that, at least from Europe and during the last 3 weeks, Freenet 0.4
  was crap.

I stress this point; is crap from the point of view of the ability
to *USE* it for the most basic features.

OK, if you have not yet hit CANCEL or REPLY at this point (I hope), go ahead.

All I ask is to stress the usefulness to manage the shift from 0.3 to 0.4
running both nodes on all server that have enought resources, and giving
to this need visibility among users, developers and node administrators.
This, maybe with some form of publicity of a list of tunnelled gateways,
both for 0.3 and 0.4 (as I suggest in a previous post) will be enought.

I personally manage a couple of node that have both version on the same
computer; is a trivial task, if the resource used are not a problem, and
as far as I know, normally they aren't.

>So, in conclusion, things are going very well, if a bit quiet right now.

And I'm very happy to hear this but ,please, do whatever possible
to mantain 0.3 live until 0.5 can scream.

Many thanks. Marco
