I like that, if it can be done without too much hackery.

That's okay, but it means there are more segments.

Additional idea:
Since each segment is a logical "chunk" of the blocks, we could set the ALT 
tag for the benefit of any lynxers (linksers more likely, because lynx can't 
do two things at once) who might be crazy enough to use this UI. Just 
something like

[30% retrieved] [36% waiting] | [13% wating] [10% willretry] [10% failed]

would have all of the info in a rather compact format -- but maybe it's not as 
convenient as properly text-based. :)

P.S. I could _try_ to code the insides of this, if you'd like -- I know how to 
attack it -- but I don't know much about java, especailly servlets, so 
someone else would have to hand me a "skeleton", where I could just fill in 
the "good parts". But I'm not sure if that would be saving anyone work 
anyway. >:) Alternatively, I could just provide pseudocode if it's needed. 
I'm guessing that it's simple enough that it's not.
