Revert the original changes w.r.t. KSKs, then see if you can make it
produce an error message if you try to insert a KSK with a / in it.

FIN is fine. Frost doesn't use slashes now, because it can't. But it
should probably be a plugin. (And plugins should have much better
integration e.g. there should be a Librarian search box on the
homepage).
