That's the way I read it! If this is correct, that means that all CHK  
inserts in the past have been successful only on collision. That is:  
(1) insert it, (2) timeout, (3) insert it again and see that it is  
already there.

If you see a NPE that I've introduced or fixed please be more  
specific, I don't understand.
