What is your reasoning? What occurs to me is that /%lang%/ and rewrites are less transparent, which makes it easier to switch between and link to specific languages, yet is somewhat of an eyesore in the URL. It also makes linking to other things on freenetproject.org slightly more complicated, and the notion of writing regexes for language detection makes me nervous.
