I think the blog application is still using the old xwiki/1.0 syntax and thus the old WYSIWYG editor. When you create a normal wiki page it should use the new xwiki/2.0 syntax and thus the new WYSIWYG editor. If you search this mailing list you should be able to find ways to upgrade your blog to the new syntax.
