Savitha,

a good idea for this project would be to attack the Lucene plugin. A relatively 
old plugin of XWiki which offers good services but has a few drawbacks.
You could then review a bit the bugs related to it to see:
- if you could suggest fixes.
- if you could respond by saying "look my solr will respond to it"
E.g. XWIKI-6226 ?
