Please excuse my tardiness here, but June Mire reminded me that I
should forward on the very sad news that Professor George Barlow
passed away quite recently from a massive stroke. George and his
students (David Noakes, Paul Loiselle, Linn Montgomery, June Mire,
and many others) left us with a great legacy of valuable research.
George will most assuredly be missed, but his work will be carried on
by those he left behind.
On an equally sad note, Francie Miller Cashner also passed away
recently following a long battle with cancer. Francie was a great
supporter of desert fish work through her Dad and Mom (Bob Miller and
Fran Hubbs Miller), her husband (Bob Cashner), and her daughters,
Mollie and Emily. Francie was literally raised in the company of
desert fishes. She and Fran were two of the sweetest and most
competent ladies it has been my pleasure to know. This trait was (is)
ubiquitous throughout the Hubbs and Miller families. Our world of
fishes would be vastly different (and much poorer) without their
contributions.
Life goes on.
My best to all of you,
Phil
