UNICEF TERMS OF REFERENCE National Professional and General Service Post POST TITLE: Researcher for research for Dukun Bayi pilot project POST LEVEL: SECTION: Health DUTY STATION: Meulaboh 1. ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING a) REPORTS TO: MCH & Nutrition APO, Meulaboh Health and Nutrition Coordinator, Meulaboh 2. PURPOSE OF THE POST (Statement of overall post accountability.) This position is to assist the Meulaboh team implementing the research phase of the Dukun Bayi pilot. The researcher will be responsible for data collection in the field working with communities and health staff at both the district and sub-district level. The research will investigate the relationships and roles of the Dukun Bayis and midwives. 3. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Percentage 20% 1. Translation and pre-testing the research tools for the pilot programme. Literature research for background information on Dukun Bayi programmes. 40% 2. In collaboration with the DHO organize the data collection using the research tools. This will include selecting villages and participants that meet the criteria, carrying out in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, observation and collection of background information. Transcription and translation of the data for analysis. In collaboration of the WNAD health team analysis the data. 30% 3. Write a report of the research to include the following sections: literature review, research objectives, methodology, results, discussion and recommendations 10% 4. In collaboration with the WNAD programme team develop a list of recommendations for the design of the dukun bayi pilot programme.
4. WORKING CONDITIONS (Do the duties of this post involve frequent travelling or unusual conditions or is it an office-based post?) The person will spend at least 50% of their time in Aceh Selatan and expected to travel to the selected communities as required. 5. QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES required to perform the duties of the post: A medical degree or experience Experience of research methodologies a) EDUCATION (Indicate the level of formal education and/or training and field of specialization required.) A medical degree or equivalent b) WORK EXPERIENCE (Indicate the length and type of practical experience required at the national and international levels.) 3 years experience of working on health care in communities or research. c) LANGUAGES (Indicate the languages requirements.) Fluency (oral and written) in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
