[many good responses to my problem of getting dhcpd to work on
hpux 10.20 snipped]
Bleah. HPUX bugs me.
there's some stuff going on here that I really don't grok.
Here's some information about the hpux machine with dhcpd:
# the broadcast is set to all ones...

Here's the corresponding server log...

DHCPOFFER on 167.128.3.31 to 00:80:5f:7a:98:94 via lan0

In contrast, here's a tcpdump when the mask is 167.128.3.255
(which may not add much information to the problem)

So for some unknown (to me at least) reason, the hp stack will
do an ip broadcast to the default routers mac address, or it will
do an ether broadcast to the local ip broadcast. But it won't
do both.
And for the sake of being complete, here's dhcpd.conf.
server-name "testnewt.lblesd.k12.or.us";
option domain-name-servers 167.128.5.2, 167.128.5.3;
get-lease-hostnames true;
max-lease-time 600;
default-lease-time 600;

#network, but serving only the test network
subnet 167.128.5.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
}
#shared-network LBLESD_Ethertest {
subnet 167.128.3.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
range 167.128.3.31 167.128.3.33;
option routers 167.128.3.1;
# option domain-name "lblesd.k12.or.us";
# option domain-name-servers 167.128.5.3, 167.128.5.2;
}
#}
Ideas? (I've been plinking around with using dlpi, but I'll write
about that in a different message.) (I didn't see many posts in
the archive regarding the development of isc dhcp-- should I keep
my dlpi musings off of dhcp-server, and send them directly to you,
Ted?)
