hi ,
I have different project groups and would like to assign specific
hostnames isyntax for specific project groups . Ex: For BioMedical group I want
to give all names medpc1,medpc2...And for imaging group imagpc1
imagepc2... and all major groups belong to different subnets . Is there
a way I can enforce a particular range of IPs to give out to only those
PCs having proper hostname syntax ie a biomedical PC when gets
connected should get IP only if hostname is medpc*
Even good thing is if it was possible to give out proper hostnames also by
DHCP itself (incremental hostnames) where we could define type of string
we want ( Just my wild imagination ...)
Right now, hostname syntax has become totally uncontrollable . As some
people want their hostnames to be registered in DNS, few hostnames
can not be put in DNS due to underscore charecters and similar problems
Any idea how we can enforce hostnames syntax ?
