Prasad--
some older Microsoft clients will accept a hostname (option 12) sent by a
server, but more recent clients do not (e.g., those for Win 95 and 98, and
NT). Pratik Gupta of IBM told me that there is a small utility that can be
downloaded for free from IBM's web site that modifies the Microsoft client
to accept option 12 and use it instead of the default "computer name."
While I have not tried the utility and don't know for certain of its
limitations and applicability, you might want to check it out. If it works
for you, great!
Carefully read the documentation for the configuration file:
"use-host-decl-names" controls the use of fixed (static) lease names as
option 12. I can also separately supply you with a hack to force option 12
to be sent to a client in this case, regardless of whether or not option 12
appears in the client's requested parameter list.
