Solaris 2.5.1 with patches a plenty (blech).
ISC DHCPD 2.0b1pl23 once with USE_SOCKETS, the other with DLPI by default.
Saved the dhclient-sockets compiled version of dhclient.
Saved the dhclient-dlpi compiled version of dhclient.
Now...
What happens is if I run dhclient on the machine running the server,
i.e. the same machine, when I use the SOCKET server, and the SOCKET
client, I get a response. This is the only combination that works.
I looked at snoop -v packet trace, and the request looks identical. I can
only assumed that the DLPI version of the server is ignoring the request
for some reason, or not seeing it.
Sorry if this should be a client post, but it seems to point more towards
a specific behavior of the server... I can try a remote client with the
same setups (Linux client to Solaris 2.5.1 server) if that helps.
