Hi,

we are currently migrating all our clients ( > 200) to DHCP.

Before this we used fixed IP-Addresses (what else :-)) and entered the
Username of the PC as a three-letter-abbreviation, appeneded to the "PC"
prefix, to our Nameservice.

So, PCRFO was "my" PC. To get it#s IP-Address a simple "nslookup pcrfo"
was OK; due to the three-letter-abbrev. we were able to find out the
IP-Addresses of clients real fast!

Now, after changing to DHCP it's hard to "find" a client's IP-Address
i.e. a lookup in dhcpd.leases is required.

My question: I sometimes heard of "DHCP-able DNS"?! Is there a DNS
available that enters the Netbios-Name of a client into its Table and
then uses it, i.e. I get IP Address 10.0.1.13 from DHCP and my Machine's
Netbios Name is "pcrfo" and when I lookup "pcrfo" I will get the
"10.0.1.13"????

Would be great to get some help here, as I'd really like to see such a
DNS working for us, soon :-))))

Best Regards,
_ralf_
