Hello. This is my first post in this mail list, so forgive me if my
question has already been posted.
My problem is follow :
I am using PXE bootroms in a remote-boot environment. PXE bootroms set
the DHCP tag 55 (PARAM_REQ_LIST) and specify a minimum priority list. This
list does not include any of my site specific tags (>128).
From what I have read in the RFC, I thought that this option was used to
specify a preference instead of a requirement. From what I have seen in
the sources of ISC dhcpd v2.0 and v3.0, the tag 55 option, if present, is
used as an exclusive list, i.e. no other options that the ones specified
by tag 55 will be sent to the client. Is that right ?
So... my goal is to get these site-options (>128) to the client. There
are two possibilities : either the PXE bootrom asks for every possible
option from 128 to 254 (other vendor's bootrom do that), or the server
does not exclude the options not specified by the tag 55 param reqlist.
My question is : what is the official interpretation of the DHCP RFC on
this topic, and who should change (PXE or the server) ?
Thank you for your attention.
David Clerc
